Frequently asked questions
How much does a Phu Quoc visa run cost in 2026?
Transport is 1,600,000 VND per person for the ferry and private car chain. A standard run with Cambodia visa handling is 2,700,000 VND, and adding a 90-day single-entry e-visa brings the total to 5,100,000 VND per person. Multiple-entry e-visa runs are 5,800,000 VND.
Is the Cambodia visa fee included in the price?
No. The Cambodia visa on arrival costs about US$30-35 for most nationalities and is paid directly at the Xa Xia border in cash. The handling service covers arranging and checking your Cambodia entry; the government stamp fee is always separate.
Why does the run cost more than a ferry ticket?
You are paying for the whole chain to hold together: ferry seats, the car waiting at Ha Tien, border timing, and a same-day return. Solo, one missed connection usually means an overnight in Ha Tien plus another ferry ticket, which costs more than the service fee.
Do prices change by nationality?
Transport and handling are the same for everyone. The Cambodia visa-on-arrival fee and eligibility for the Vietnam 90-day e-visa can differ by passport. Message us on WhatsApp with your nationality for a confirmed quote.
What do I pay on run day?
The service total from your booking (cash is the default) plus the Cambodia border visa fee of about US$30-35 per person, paid in cash at the crossing. Carry small USD or VND notes.
Is the 90-day e-visa add-on worth it?
If you need a fresh 90-day stamp to keep staying in Vietnam, yes. The application is submitted as part of the run so approval lands in time for your re-entry. If your passport already has a valid multi-entry visa, you may not need it; check with us before booking.
How long is the ferry from Phu Quoc to Ha Tien in 2026?
The fast boats take about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes from Bai Vong port to Ha Tien. The Thanh Thoi car ferry takes about three hours, and the GreenWave solar boat is the slowest of the lot at roughly 1 hour 45 minutes. Weather can add time, and sailings are occasionally cancelled outright in the monsoon.
How much is the Phu Quoc to Ha Tien ferry?
In 2026 the cheap end is about 185,000 VND on the Binh An car ferry and 205,000 VND on Thanh Thoi, the other car ferry, against about 216,000 VND for a Phu Quoc Express economy seat. Superdong sits around 230,000 VND for an adult one way, with VIP seats on Phu Quoc Express at about 330,000 VND and the GreenWave solar boat at 350,000 VND. Seniors and children usually pay less.
Where does the Phu Quoc to Ha Tien ferry leave from?
Bai Vong port on the east coast of the island. It is not in Duong Dong, so factor in the drive from your hotel. Turn up about 30 minutes before departure with your passport, and expect the boat to dock at the Ha Tien river terminal about 8 km from the Xa Xia border gate.
What time is the last ferry from Ha Tien back to Phu Quoc?
There is usually an afternoon or early evening sailing, and the GreenWave solar service runs every two hours until 20:00. That is the safety net if a border queue eats your morning, but do not plan around the last boat. If it is cancelled for weather you are sleeping in Ha Tien, which is exactly why the guided visa run books an afternoon return with slack in it.
Does the Phu Quoc to Ha Tien ferry run in the rainy season?
Yes, but June to September brings swells of 1 to 2 metres and sailings get cancelled at short notice. Phu Quoc Express refunds the full ticket value with no extra compensation; Superdong does not publish a weather policy and the counter decides. Never put a ferry on the same day as an onward flight.
Can I bring a motorbike or a car on the ferry to Ha Tien?
Motorbikes go on the slower car ferry, not on the Superdong or Phu Quoc Express fast boats. Cars need the roll-on roll-off sailing, which takes roughly three hours or more. If your visa run is a same-day loop, travel as a foot passenger and leave the vehicle on the island.
How long does the Phu Quoc to Xa Xia visa run take?
About 11 hours door to door. Pickup in Duong Dong is at 05:30, the ferry reaches Ha Tien around 08:00, the crossing happens mid-morning, and the afternoon boat puts you back on the island in the late afternoon.
What are the Xa Xia border hours in 2026?
Daily from about 06:00 to 18:00 on the Vietnamese side, with Prek Chak on the Cambodian side opening around 07:00. Processing for international travelers winds down by dusk, which is why every run from Phu Quoc uses the first ferries of the day.
Do I get a Cambodia visa at the border, and how much is it?
Yes. The visa on arrival at Prek Chak runs about US$30-40, paid in cash at the window. Bring small US dollar notes, two passport photos and a passport with six months of validity left. There is no ATM at the gate.
Is the Xa Xia border open to foreigners on foot?
Yes. Walk-in travelers cross here without a guide or a tour group. The formality takes 30 to 45 minutes when nothing else is queued, plus the 500 metre walk between the two buildings.
Can I do this run without booking a service?
You can. The ferries are public and taxis wait at the Ha Tien terminal. What you take on is the timing: seats are sold per sailing, the border shuts at 18:00, and the return boat leaves in the early afternoon. One missed connection turns a day trip into a night in Ha Tien plus a second fare.
Does Phu Quoc's 30-day exemption change how I plan the run?
Yes, and this is the local rule most guides get wrong. Phu Quoc runs its own 30-day visa exemption as a special economic zone, separate from the mainland's 45-day exemption. If you have used your island window, the run plus a 90-day e-visa is the usual fix. Send your passport nationality and arrival date on WhatsApp and we will tell you which case you are in.
What is the Phu Quoc 30-day visa exemption?
A separate entry rule for the island, created under Decision 80/2013/QD-TTg and in force since 10 March 2014. Any nationality, no fee, no application, up to 30 days, provided you arrive at Phu Quoc International Airport or the island seaport and stay on Phu Quoc.
Does the mainland 45-day exemption apply on Phu Quoc?
No. The 45-day exemption is for a country list (UK, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea and others) and carries a 30-day gap between visits. The island's exemption is open to every nationality and capped at 30 days. An EU or UK passport arriving at PQC gets 30 days, not 45.
Can I extend the Phu Quoc visa exemption?
Not on the island, and an approved e-visa does not convert the exemption you entered on by itself. Exit and re-enter on the new e-visa, or hand your passport to a licensed agent in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Da Nang five to seven working days before your stamp expires. Expect US$40 to US$80.
Can I fly to Phu Quoc to reset a mainland stay?
No. The exemption applies to people entering Vietnam from abroad. If you are already in the country on a mainland exemption or an e-visa, a domestic flight to the island does not trigger it and does not give you 30 fresh days. Immigration reads how you entered, not where you are standing.
What happens if I overstay the 30 days?
You pay a bracketed fine under Decree 282/2025/ND-CP. Under 16 days is 500,000 to 2,000,000 VND. From 16 to under 30 days it jumps to 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 VND, and from 16 days onward deportation becomes a possible penalty as well. A year or more runs 30,000,000 to 40,000,000 VND.
Do I need a visa run if I only stay on Phu Quoc?
No. A trip of 30 days or less entirely on the island is covered by the exemption and there is nothing to book. The run matters when you are here on an expiring e-visa, you want to stay past 30 days, or your plans reach the mainland.
Is the pre-arrival declaration mandatory for Phu Quoc?
Authorities describe it as strongly recommended, airlines flying into the island list it as required, and the notices do not all use the same word. There is no published fine and no confirmed case of entry refused over it alone. What is certain: without the QR code your entry is processed manually instead of scanned, and some carriers ask for it at check-in.
Do I need it if I am entering Vietnam visa-free?
Yes, if you land at an airport. Visa-free status excuses the visa, not the declaration. Travelers using Phu Quoc's own 30-day island exemption should select Phu Quoc Visa Exemption as the entry type in the form.
How early can I submit the form?
Up to 72 hours before your scheduled landing, and not earlier. The portal refuses dates further out, so filing the week before simply does not work. You can also complete the same declaration after landing, by QR code or on a paper form at the airport.
Do I need it when I come back from a visa run to Ha Tien?
No. The declaration covers airport arrivals. A run that exits and re-enters Vietnam by land at the Ha Tien (Xa Xia) gate and returns to the island by ferry involves no pre-arrival declaration at either end. You would only need one if you fly back into Vietnam afterwards, on any later trip.
My submission was rejected. What went wrong?
Nine times out of ten it is the flight number. The portal matches your entry against the operating airline's booking record, so a codeshare number copied off a travel agent's itinerary fails. Retry with the number on the operating carrier's own confirmation. Re-submitting is free and unlimited, and the new code replaces the old one.
Does each family member need their own form?
Yes, including infants. Every passenger on a non-Vietnamese passport needs a separate declaration and a separate QR code. Vietnamese passport holders are exempt, and so are passengers who stay airside in transit without clearing immigration.
